Captain’s Log – March

March has arrived, and with it the unmistakable buzz that signals the start of another golfing season at Oaksey. After months of winter golf, muddy trousers, and more than a few hopeful swings through the drizzle, it’s a joy to see the course waking up again. Fairways are firming, greens are quickening, and the clubhouse is filling with that familiar mix of optimism and competitive spirit.

This month marks the beginning of our weekly and monthly competitions, and it’s been fantastic to see so many members already getting involved. Whether you’re chasing silverware, sharpening your game, or simply enjoying the company, there’s something special about the early-season energy. The roll ups are lively, the banter is back in full flow, and the season ahead looks promising.

As your Captain, I’m also proud to shine a light on the three charities we’ll be supporting throughout the year. Each one plays a vital role in our wider community, and I’m grateful for the enthusiasm already shown by members.

• Churn Community Hub

Supporting local people with wellbeing services, social connection, and practical help when it’s needed most.

• Men Walking and Talking

A brilliant grassroots charity encouraging men to open up, connect, and support one another through simple, friendly walking groups.

• Cirencester Opportunity Group (COG)

Providing early years support and inclusive education for children with additional needs and their families.

Throughout the season, we’ll be running fundraising events, fun competitions, and opportunities to get involved. Your generosity whether through time, donations, or simply spreading the word makes a real difference.

As we step into spring, I hope you enjoy every round, every challenge, and every moment shared with fellow members. Here’s to longer days, lower scores, and a fantastic season ahead at Oaksey.
